Also, Melissa has been selected to walk the red carpet and represent Special Olympics Texas at Oscar Night 2008.     ..... and ...   Melissa has been selected as Special Olympics Texas "Female Athlete of the Year" area 20.     ..... and ...   Melissa has recently passed the USFSA/Special Olympics track pre-preliminary moves in the field and free skate tests.

Meet Melissa Cheatwood, Special Olympics Texas Level 4 figure skater and Level 3 ice dancer. She trains in San Antonio with head freestyle coach, Ms. Kerry Stormo and in Austin at Chaparral Ice (www.chaparralice.com) with Coach Barry. Melissa also has an ice dance coach, jumps and spins coach as well as a compulsories coach. Melissa is very proud to be a Full member of the San Antonio Figure Skating Club and an Associate member of the Austin Figure Skating Club.

Melissa has been involved in Special Olympics for 13 years and has been ice skating for 7 years, mastering numerous skills (layback spin, camel spin and working on an ena bauer).

Melissa is the Ice Skating Institute's only East Coast/Gulf Coast Special Skater 10, and one of only two "SS 10's" in the United States of America.
